Fred Waldvogel, Violetter Lacktrichterling (Lacearia amethystina)
Fred Waldvogel’s iconic mushroom photos, known from 1970s field guides, are now honored in a new photo book. Created in collaboration with Zeughaus Teufen, the publication will be presented on September 12, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. with an aperitif.
Since photographer Fred Waldvogel managed to capture all identifying features of a mushroom in a single photograph, his images were ideally suited to illustrate the well-known mushroom books published by the Zurich-based Silva Verlag as well as other reference works in the early 1970s. It is precisely in this context that Waldvogel’s photographs became known in the German-speaking world and evoke nostalgic feelings in some people.
Inspired by the presentation of Fred Waldvogel’s fascinating photographic legacy, which has been drawing great interest on the second floor of the museum since spring, a photo book has been created alongside the exhibition. This volume brings together a selection of his artistic mushroom photographs. The new photo book, a collaboration with the Zeughaus Teufen, aims above all to honor Waldvogel’s technical and visual talent as a photographer. Published by Jungle Books and designed by Bänziger Hug, the publication will be presented to the public and celebrated with an aperitif on Friday, September 12, 2025, starting at 6:30 p.m.
