Cortis & Sonderegger: Open Studio

The two photographers and artists are using the upcoming exhibition at the Museum im Bellpark to bring two new projects to life for visitors. At the center of their cosmos is their artist’s studio in Adliswil, where they design, implement and depict fictions. In their new project Studio, they are staging this productive place for the first time: with all its specific and everyday objects, it is set in motion, proportions tilt and the assumed reality begins to slip. What is real? What is fake?

In the exhibition, we also encounter the original models that the artist duo made for the documentary The Missing Films – a portrait of the eccentric Danish director Lars von Trier, which will be released later this year. The artists recreated Trier’s beloved home and several iconic film sets as real miniatures, which then became actual movie sets. These models transport us into fictional parallel worlds that repeatedly question the relationship between fiction and reality.

In Open Studio, Cortis & Sonderegger establish a multi-perspective view of their production processes, allowing the viewer to participate in the process of depiction and thus challenging reflection on image-making and the content of the photographic image in the digital age.
