For this CA POSITION#EXTENDED lecture, in cooperation with the Swiss Photomonth, BA Camera Arts is happy to welcome US- photographer and author Gregory Halpern for a Zoom talk.
Position is a BA Camera Arts programme of events open beyond the walls of the university, offering monthly opportunities to meet the most exciting international experts and artists from the photography world and gain insights into their work, thinking and creation.
Gregory Halpern will reflect on his career in photography, tracing the evolution of his practice and the themes that have shaped his work over the years. He will discuss his approach to photographing strangers, the role of intuition and empathy in image-making, and how photography can both reveal and obscure truth. In addition to sharing insights into his working process and thoughts on the medium’s potential in a time of visual saturation and political complexity, Halpern will present a selection of images from his most recent books, offering context on their creation, sequencing and the underlying ideas and intentions that shaped them. The talk will invite viewers into his way of seeing—one that balances the poetic and the political, the personal and the collective.
The talk takes place via Zoom.
