Ten years of visions, experimentation and visual storytelling: the Museo d’arte Mendrisio celebrates the first decade of its exhibition programme dedicated to contemporary photography held at Casa Pessina in Ligornetto with the group show “10 Years of Photography at Casa Pessina”.
The exhibition brings together works by the twenty-one photographers who, over the years, have animated the spaces of Casa Pessina, bearing witness to the extraordinary variety of contemporary photographic production: from photojournalistic projects to video installations, from social investigations to the most personal artistic explorations. What emerges is a vibrant and heterogeneous map, reflecting the many ways in which photography today observes, interprets, and portrays the world.
The display unfolds across the different rooms of Casa Pessina, engaging in a dialogue with the sculptural works of Apollonio Pessina (1879–1958) preserved in the historic building in Ligornetto. This temporary coexistence offers a renewed perspective on Pessina’s work while also highlighting the strength and uniqueness of the photographic visions gathered for this occasion.
The exhibition thus aims to celebrate the vitality of today’s photographic landscape while also suggesting new ways of experiencing these spaces, drawing attention to the layered character of Casa Pessina — a place that over time has been a home, a studio, a museum, and a space for exchange and for valuing heritage, where memory and contemporaneity meet and interact.
